Blepharoplasty | Eye Lid Surgery
Your eyes are often the first thing people notice about you. As we age, the tone and shape of our eyelids can loosen and sag causing us to appear older and more tired. The Center for Eye Care and Optical can help restore your appearance through eyelid surgery or Blepharoplasty, a surgical procedure used to improve the appearance of the eyelids.
This procedure, performed on over 100,000 men and women every year, is used for both cosmetic reasons and to improve impaired vision due to sagging eyelids. A change in appearance around the eye is typically among the first signs of aging. Sun exposure, excessive squinting, eye rubbing, the use of contact lenses and chronic allergies and sinus conditions can cause the eyelids to swell and promote sags and bags around the eyes.
This one to two hour procedure is performed on an outpatient basis with usually only mild swelling and bruising afterwards. Done on either the upper or lower eyelids or both, Dr. Rabinovich makes a tiny incision to remove excess fat, muscle and loose skin to restore the eyelids to a more youthful, well-rested look. In upper eyelid surgery, the incision is made along the eyelid crease so that the scar is virtually invisible. The excess fat, muscle and loose skin are removed and small sutures close the incision, brightening your eyes for a fresher look and expanding the visual field. The lower eyelid incision is made on the inside of the lower eyelid so there is no external scar. Having this procedure on your lower eyelids can help to remove puffiness, bags and even fine wrinkles under the eyes to give you a more rested, rejuvenated appearance.
